Environment

GASCO is committed to protecting the environment and has strived to reduce any adverse environmental impact of its operations.

GASCO has produced an Environment Impact Statement (EIS) as part of the HSEIA

Flaring in GASCO receives special attention. The volume of gas flared by GASCO has been reduced by 73% since 1998, when 25.5 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) was flared. By 2009, the figure for flaring had been reduced to 6.9 MMSCFDas a result of many initiatives in the Company.

GASCO has adopted a strategy of flare flow measurement and equipment monitoring using advanced technology so that the necessary actions can be taken to minimize flaring and fugitive emissions. GASCO supports the ADNOC Air Quality Emission Monitoring Program with a number of monitoring stations at its sites. The aim of this project is to obtain air data from sites on a regular basis and to compare this data with air quality objectives. Habshan Plant staff currently monitors the sulphur dioxide level in ambient air on site and at the town of Beda Zayed, 25 kilometers from Habshan. Results show that the levels of SO2 are well within the World Health Organization limits.

Water management in GASCO is continually updated examining water intake, distribution policy for domestic, process and irrigation and protection of aquifers.

A Water and Electricity Conservation Program has been introduced to educate staff and encourage conservation in their daily lives.

In 2008, GASCO introduced the GASCO Energy Award the aim of which was to enhance our commitment to energy conservation and Environment preservation, and recognizing GASCO’s responsibility as an Operating company towards its people, the surrounding Companies and the whole Emirate.
